Research at Oregon StateMaking discoveries, creating knowledge, and advanced training — just some of the opportunities you'll have as a graduate student at Oregon State. And the driver behind these opportunities? Research.
Research is at the heart of what Oregon State stands for and graduate students help power our research enterprise.
Researchers at OSU focus on three key areas:
-
Advancing the Science of Earth Ecosystems
-
Improving Human Health and Wellness
-
Promoting Innovation and Economic Prosperity
As Oregon's largest public research university, we are proud to be one of only two land, sea, space and sun grant institutions in the U.S. We garnered $382 million in external research funding in 2018.

Spotlight: Coral Reef ResearchEven though Oregon is located thousands of miles from the nearest tropical coral reef, Oregon State University has a unique cluster of coral science expertise. The pressures facing the world's tropical corals are a global problem that impacts the health of the entire marine environment. Scientists teamed up with Oregon State Productions to create Saving Atlantis, a documentary about the dramatic decline of global coral reef ecosystems.
