What is the Graduate School?

The Graduate School plays a vital role in your academic career. We act as an umbrella organization overseeing graduate programs at Oregon State. We track your degree progress and ensure you meet all requirements before graduating.

Graduate School Orientation

The Graduate School hosts orientations each term and Grad Welcome Week for new and transfer students a week before school starts in fall term.

Join us at 1–4 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2024 for a virtual orientation. If you happen to be in the area, please join us in the Heckart Lodge classroom for the spring term orientation. View the orientation schedule.

Register for Classes

Talk to your program about which classes to take and when to register. Registration stays open even after the term starts in case you are waiting for official transcripts. You'll need an ONID account to register.

All degree seeking master-level students may begin registering on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 6 a.m. PT and all doctoral students may register on Sunday, Feb. 25 starting at 7 a.m. To register:
  1. Visit classes.oregonstate.edu and Log in (ONID required)
  2. Pick your classes and submit schedule. Learn more about using the class scheduler. Classes will automatically move from the Scheduler into Online Services.
  3. Finish your registration using Online Services. Screenshots available on this page under "Register for Classes Using Scheduler Cart".

Required paperwork

Immunizations

Oregon State has immunization requirements for domestic and international students. Please review the immunizations you are required to have.

Student Health Services training

As a graduate student, you are required to take the Voices for Change: Consent and Creating Inclusive Communities trainings. You will receive an email invitation with links to the trainings. Visit the SHS required online programs webpage for more information.

Health insurance

Domestic students are not required to have health insurance to attend OSU-Cascades. However, our university encourages students to have health insurance so that students can live their healthiest lives. Oregon State offers a health insurance policy through PacificSource for students and their family members.

International students must purchase Oregon State's health insurance policy, or must show proof of similar coverage. Oregon State automatically enrolls international students in health insurance bills their student account. Find out more about international student health insurance.

OSU Grad Advantage

OSU Grad Advantage is a curated set of opportunities to augment your degree by gaining additional vital skills. It's part of OSU’s continued commitment to innovating to support graduate students. In this initial phase, we gathered existing opportunities for you to gain or enhance skills in five core competencies:

  • Interpretation and Use of Research

The opportunities range from video tutorials to for-credit courses. Many of the resources are available online. A self-assessment tool will help you identify and prioritize the areas on which to focus. These skills may set you apart from other candidates for your next job.

ONID and email

Sign up for ONID. Your ONID account lets you sign into online services at Oregon State, like Canvas and your OSU email account. Plus, you will need it to register for classes.

ID Center

Visit the Mail & ID Center to receive your student ID card. Your ID card is necessary to make use of various Oregon State services.

OSU Mobile and Campus Map

Check your grades, find places to eat, and get bus schedules with the OSU Mobile app, available for iOS and Android.

Visit Campus Safety to sign up for OSU alerts on your phone, how to report emergencies, and find other safety resources.

Accommodations

If you have a documented need/accommodation that should be recognized by the university, visit Disability Access Services (DAS).
