Program options for clinical mental health or school counseling Dear Jennifer,
Thank you for your interest in our Master of Counseling program! Effective counselors employ a deep understanding of the many factors that shape mental health — human growth and development, resilience, identity, society and culture. It's a skill you learn by doing with support from seasoned counselor educators and supervisors.
The Master of Counseling program at OSU-Cascades combines academic knowledge and theory in the classroom with practical application and field experience in clinical or school-based counseling settings. Through practicum and internships, you'll sharpen your skills as you help real people, guided by faculty mentors and clinical supervisors.
The Clinical Mental Health option includes a 100-hour practicum at OSU-Cascades' state-of-the-art counseling clinic, which provides free mental health services to the community. You'll also complete a 600-hour internship through placements at agencies throughout Central Oregon.
For the School Counseling option, you'll complete a 100-hour practicum at a partner school site using the Professional Development Schools model which emphasizes multicultural and social justice competencies. Students complete a 600-hour internship at public schools throughout Central Oregon.
The cohort-based program begins in June. Students may choose from the three-year, part-time program or the two-year, full-time program.
