Dear Jennifer,
Thank you for your interest in our Master of Counseling program! OSU-Cascades' nationally accredited graduate counseling program provides the theory and practice to enable you to deliver professional counseling services in a clinical mental health or school setting. Students have the choice of completing the program requirements for either the clinical mental health option or the school counseling option. Our graduate counseling program prepares the counselors of tomorrow with exceptional in-classroom instruction using a cohort model where students form strong bonds as they progress through their coursework together.
The coursework for this program integrates academic knowledge and theory with counseling practice and internships. In addition to coursework, students complete a 100-hour practicum and a 600-hour internship. The master's level internship hours in the final year are intensive and typically range from 15-20 clock hours per week.
The counseling program is accredited by the Council for Accrediting Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), the gold standard in graduate counseling programs. This accreditation allows the student to take exams needed to meet initial eligibility requirements for licensure as an Oregon Licensed Professional Counselor. The program is recognized by the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and the National Board of Certified Counselors as meeting the coursework requirements for state licensing and national certification.
The cohort-based program begins in June. Students may choose from the three-year part-time program or the two-year full-time program.
